Unceded Airwaves Episode February 8, 2023
Broadcast Your Decolonial Love (FUNDRIVE Special)
10:00am - 11:01am
Unceded Airwaves is hosted by the Indigenous Collective at CiTR. As a weekly radio show, we aim to showcase the diversity and brilliance of Indigenous cultures while highlighting influential Indigenous kin. We recognize that media has often been used as a tool to subordinate or appropriate Indigenous voices and we are committed to subverting these dynamics. The team is comprised of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who are passionate about story-telling, alternative media, and Indigenous affairs. We broadcast from the traditional, ancestral, current, and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Wautuh Peoples.
On this special episode, Kleo Skavinski (They/Them) is joined by the CiTR Spoken Word Aunty Hina Imam (She/They) for a live episode of Unceded Airwaves in honor of the annual CiTR FUNDRIVE! Kleo and Hina dive into a conversation of Billy-Ray Belcourt's autobiography 'A History of My Brief Body' (2020). Topics of love, family, and Two-Spirit/Indigiqueer identity.
The hosts were careful to avoid spoilers and encourage listeners to read Belcourt's book.
