Unceded Airwaves Episode February 13, 2017
S2E17 - DTES Women's Memorial March, Highway of Tears, Ricochet and NEC
11:02am - 12:06pm
For season 2 episode 17, we have a trio of Indigenous ladies co-hosting the episode. This week we dedicated a segment to the DTES Women's Memorial March, where Indigenous Collective member Haley Lewis contributes a segment with Myrna Cranmer. Clara Salter, Olivia Santacroce and Lisa Girbav air a creative non-fiction podcast that aims to raise awareness about the Highway of Tears and show that the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women is not just the hashtag #MMIW. Later in the show, we have a segment by Josh Gabert-Doyon with Leena Minifie on the Ricochet reporting fund. Carleigh Baker does her first live interview on this week's episode to discuss a grassroots gathering that took place last week called Warm Disruptions, with guests Wendy Simon and Kevin Kokoska from the Native Education College.
We play two new songs from Samantha Crain and Mariame! Find these tunes in the playlist below and on our @uncededairwaves Twitter account under the #UncededMusic hashtag!
Thank you to our guests Wendy Simon, Kevin Kokoska, Myrna Cranmer, and Leena Minifie for contributing your words to this week's episode. Thank you to Haley Lewis, Clara Salter, Olivia Santacroce, and Josh Gabert-Doyon for your contributions to this week's show. Shout outs to our co-hosts Carleigh Baker, Lisa Girbav and Nikita Day for coming in on the Family Day holiday (and thank you Nikita for operating the board this week!). Unceded Airwaves on CiTR 101.9FM broadcasts from the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam people. This show is put together every week by UBC's Indigenous Radio Collective, and we are committed to centering the voices of Native people and offering alternative narratives that empower Native people and our stories.
