Muse-ish Episode February 26, 2021
Muse-ish ep026 (Sharing the platform/spotlighting black stories)
11:01am - 11:46am
Battling a teething puppy and thus a host of technical difficulties was well worth celebrating the stories and giving up my lil platform for this episode. While muse-ish always tries to be a show that includes sounds from near and far outside my lived experiences I'd be remised to not spotlight talented black creators during black history month:
A clip from song exploder's Run The Jewels episode and their song JU$T made by some hip hop heavy hitters
Janelle Monae singing truth to power with Turntables
Anderson .Paak's amazign BLM protest anthem lockdown
Jamila Woods tribute to Nikki Giovani followed by the poet herself
Florence Beatrice a black female classical composer who just had a large body of work uncovered
Joseph Boulogne Chevalier de Saint-Georges an influential noble man and classical composer
Winners of the 2020 classical music Grammy Devonte Haynes (the first black person to win the award) and Third Coast Percussion
We also have !Kona and Morgan of BlackChat episode 002 where they interview local icon and poet Jillian Christmas who we also have singing with Chelsea D.E. Johnson performing their spoken word folk hybrid tune "one day" at the Vancouver poetry slam. All these amazing stories and creatives deserve a deep dive so please PLEASE go explore their multi-faceted eclectic waters.
