Aug. 1 was the second night of Vancouver's annual fireworks competition, so several songs along that theme were sprinkled throughout the evening. Musical tribute was paid to Jerry Garcia, who would have turned 70 on this day. Tonight's interviews involved the upcoming FolkWest festival in Victoria, from perspectives of the artistic director (Oliver Swain) and a performing musician (David Newberry).
