Kristóf Hajós is a Hungarian singer, lyricist and musician, living in Amsterdam since 2018. His career's most important act is the slo-core pop and sparse chamber ballad band The Unbending Trees (active between 2006 and 2015). They became cultic in Hungary and reached unprecedented success abroad. The Unbending Trees was founded by Kristóf and Balázs Havasi pianist, who held full-house concerts with his solo project in Wembley Arena and at The Sydney Opera House among others.
The band was discovered in 2007 on MySpace by Ben Watt (one half of Everything but the Girl), who signed them to Strange Feeling Records, the alternative branch of his label, Buzzin’ Fly. In the same year they released their first EP in the UK and Hungary, which was followed by their first LP in 2008. The album, which was praised by all national newspapers in the UK, includes a duet “Overture” with Tracey Thorn (the other half of Everything but the Girl). The Times featured a full page interview with the band on the day of the release. The band at the time was managed by Peter Jenner (ex-manager of Pink Floyd and The Clash). They also recorded a radio session based around the main songs of this album, which was then played by BBC6. This LP also includes the band’s biggest hit ‘You Are A Lover’, which has generated millions of streams on different platforms in Japan, China, Hungary and in the UK.
Their second LP 'Meteor’ came out in 2013. The two have played a number of live sets in London. In 2015 Kristóf was a guest solo performer of Balázs Havasi, giving a full-house performance in Carnegie Hall, New York. This was the last public performance of this formation.
Kristóf started working on his solo material late 2020, with two singles (Bitterlfy and Xanadu) released so far and the album scheduled for November 2021.
