Episode 1: Pushing the Boundaries
11:00am - 12:00pm
In this episode we explore the dissonance between art institutions and the grassroots, anticolonial art that they increasingly curate. Acclaimed Indigenous artist and activist Marianne Nicolson gets into her audio-visual exhibit This is an Emergency Broadcast now on at the Belkin Art Gallery, and curator Karen Duffek joins us to discuss her Museum of Anthropology exhibit, To Be Seen, To Be Heard: First Nations in Public Spaces, 1900–1965. Guided by Gregory Sholette’s The Art of Activism and the Activism of Art, we look at the interplay between gallery spaces and art pushing boundaries they reinforce.
