New Music Review By Mark Hjorthoy

vÄäristymä – 2014 – 2024

Damn. This album is so good, I wish I made it. Glitchy sounds tripping over full rounded bass notes, and melodies that self destruct before your ears. It doesn’t surprise me that I’ve never heard anything like this before. They build their own instruments. Now, that’s about as DIY as it gets. This is a perfect soundtrack to a horror film. I would love to hear this as part of an art installation. So glad I listened to this. I’m going in again.

Onions – Layers (1975-2004)

I can’t even imagine how many strange little pieces of tape got used by Onions in their heyday. My mind boggles at the crazy pieces that are brilliantly executed on this release. I’m really happy I was turned on to this Texas powerhouse. Part Pierre Schaeffer, part foley room, with a touch of David Lynch. So much to hear on this and dear lord, the staggering amount of talent it takes to make it this good… I’m sold. Wrap it up, I’m taking it with me everywhere.

Janek Krukowski – Latent

Percolating and bubbly, I am in awe of how this release must have been mixed. So many colourful sounds jump in and out of this one so well. A brilliant collection of blips and field recordings. This would make an awesome soundtrack to an art installation. I’d stand in front of it for hours.
