Various Artists – Visions Of Darkness (In Iranian Contemporary Music) II
In an area plagued with repression, inequality and fear, it would seem that an underground culture of experimental music of any kind would be unheard of. What would be too much? Where is “going too far” measured? In this second collection of masterworks, there is no line, no censor, no law. Just beautiful pieces, angry pieces, dark pieces captured brilliantly for the world to explore. There is so much wonder and amazement in this release that it would take pages of text to accurately review it. So for now, I’ll just say that I am a huge fan of the Iranian underground, and I look forward to hearing more.
Sokushinbutsu Project –The Yōkai Codex
I’ve been waiting for this release for a while. When I received the CD in the mail, I cleared my schedule (it wasn’t that hard to do), and put on my headphones. What I received back was nothing short of brilliant. A series of aural stories based on the Japanese yōkai (spirits and demons that haunt the living). Some are friendly, some are not. This album takes you through the spaces where they interact with humans. I can picture each surrounding from what I hear (ie. “Wilds“, “Water“, “Countryside“, “Village and City“, “Home“, and “Epilogue -“Yōkai Street“). This album better further propel them into the minds and ears of the world. It’s a masterpiece.
