el Hashem
el Hashem (he/him) is a Lebanese Canadian musician residing in Toronto. Singing and music has always been a passion in his life, and at the urging of a Producer and friends, he started recording in 2020, following a successful career in LGBTQ2S+ media. His love of songs and appreciation of music was instilled in him since childhood, as he comes from a well known and respected Lebanese musical family; an aunt considered a trailblazing superstar in Lebanese music and another aunt who factors prominently in Lebanese TV and radio.
He started in music by recording a number of (well received) cover songs before releasing two successful singles and his latest EP “Come Party in My House”. Having grown up feeling “different” from those around him, el Hashem uses his role as an artist to bring people together, bridge cultures, and to create moments of joy.
el Hashem’s popularity is growing steadily around the world. From North America to the Middle East, Indonesia, Philippines, Africa, South America, and more, fans are coming to his social media from all over to enjoy his original songs, fun music video covers of popular songs and sharing his love of food, dogs, and life. His friendly, down to earth vibe, and happy smile, play a large part in the popularity of this music sensation.
Hashem’s latest EP “Come Party in My House” features the Middle Eastern inspired “A Party in My House”, the country influenced “Keeps Me Home (My Cowboy)”, and the sexy sweet little pop number “Run Away with You”. SCOTTY McKAY
The Dogwood Monarchist Society (DMS), a 2SLGBTQIA+ non-profit in Vancouver, kicked off a new reign this year with the local queer community “electing” Emprex 51 Karmella Barr & Emperor 51 Scotty B. Boxx to serve as the heads of Vancouver’s “court”. This year’s theme is “United Colours of the Crown”.
This year’s Emperor 51 is our Guest on QueerFM, Scotty McKay (he/him). A former DMS Imperial Crown Prince, Scotty became involved with the DMS in 2012 and has ten years of fundraising under his belt, having co-produced the annual charity drag fundraiser QUEENS CARE as well as working to help create the CruiseyT - Vancouver Pride Cruises which ran for 25 years. He has helped to raise over $100,000 for local LGBTQ2+ charities including the Health Initiative for Men, Rainbow Refugee, A Loving Spoonful, and AIDS Vancouver.
Founded in 1972, the DMS is the Mother Court of Canada within the International Court System, which has over 65 chapters in the United States, Canada and Mexico, making it one of the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ organisations in the world.
The Society’s bylaws mandate that the reigning monarchs must select three local charities to support, and consequently the DMS chapter in Vancouver has raised millions of dollars over the decades for community-building initiatives.
