Queer FM Episode December 14, 2021
QueerFM Featured Guests: Director Sheona McDonald of 'Into Light' & Canadian Gay singer Jason Dawson
8:00am - 10:00am
We have 2 special interviews that delve into LGBTQIA+ music (Jason Dawson) and movies (Into Light Filmmaker and Cast): Today we highlight a magical interview with two special adults and our new personal hero "KIDDO", an eight year old beautiful young girl who just so happens to be trans. We were enchanted by their story.
Sheona McDonald (She/Her) has worked in the ?lm and television industry for two decades, producing, directing and writing documentary features, limited series and narrative shorts. Her most recent projects include the feature-length documentary Dead Man’s Switch: A Crypto Mystery, about the death of Gerald Cotten, founder of the QuadrigaCX Cryptocurrency exchange, and the short documentary Into Light for the National Film Board of Canada. Based in West Vancouver, Sheona was nominated for a Gemini Award for her writing of Capturing a Short Life; and won a Canadian Screen Award for writing When Dreams Take Flight.
Mom "JC" (She/Her) and daughter "Kiddo" (She/Her):
JC and Kiddo, who wish to stay anonymous in this interview, are a family of two living in the North. When kiddo told her mom at the age of 3 who she truly was on the inside, the family started on a complex journey of intimate personal growth and transition. One of the hardest things for JC, a single, cisgender, straight mother, was the lack of information for parents navigating the complexities of gender identity while at the same time protecting her child. Kiddo is now 8 years old.
When a child reveals who they truly are on the inside, how does a parent set aside their own expectations to help them become their most authentic self? Sheona McDonald's documentary captures a season of change as a mother and child navigate the complexities of gender identity together.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14th ON QUEERFM VAN
Our second interview in our upcoming show focuses on Queer Music as we sit down with Ontario based musician Jason Dawson, who gives hope to others through his songs of heartbreak, (you'll have to tune in to hear how he does it).
A lot can happen in two years. You can rise to local fame after an impromptu performance with one of your idols (Bebe Rexha), a global pandemic can hit and force the world into a lockdown for months and you can fall in love and get your heart broken into a million pieces, all while gearing up to release your debut single.
Fortunately, for budding independent artist, Jason Dawson, he knows how to turn any experience into a song. His first introduction into the music world was his debut single, ANCHOR. An upbeat electro-pop song that makes you want to dance while getting your heart broken. It was able to garner the attention of music blogs and listeners alike, racking up thousands of streams in its first week of being released.
Following up on the success of his debut single, Jason released his follow up track, ALONE, a song penned about his own experiences dealing with toxic behaviours in a relationship. Jason is ready to take the world by storm and show just what you can do with a lonely heart. LONELY HEARTS, the latest EP and single was released this past November; to learn more about Jason and his music, check him out on his website at www.jasondawsonofficial.com.
