Emma, Arts Reporter, saw Sticks n’ Skins, presented by South Asian Arts and the Dance Centre, on Nov 29th, and followed up with Sal Ferreras, legendary Vancouver musician and producer, about the power of drums and how traditional dance and music impacts contemporary arts and music.

Pacific Cinematheque is starting their retrospective Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli on Dec 7th, all in 35mm (except The Ocean Waves). Pacific Cinematheque is one of the most committed proponents of 35mm film projection in the city, and we check in with projectionist Al about his art.

And Arts Reporter Sara previews a co-presentation by Blackbird Theatre and Vancouver Public Library of Masks, Mischief & Molière, a FREE event discussion, and demonstration of the traditional Italian theatre form Commedia Dell’Arte on December 11  at the Central VPL branch. Sara talks to  producer Wayne Specht (Axis theatre),  who is collaborating with Blackbird Theatre on the upcoming production of Don Juan directed by John Wright, about the art of comedy and the upcoming production of Don Juan.
