Featuring an exciting collection of plucked stringed instruments from around the world, the Vancouver Chinese Instrumental Music Society and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden presents Plucking Strings. Jirong Huang, musical director of the Vancouver Chinese Music ensemble will work with guest musicians on the Vietnamese Dan Bau, Chinese ruan, Indian sitar and western guitar. The ensemble brings together cultural communities in celebration of the lute family of music.
The night’s program will be emceed by renouned linguist, Jan Walls, giving context to an unconventional arrangement of instruments. Each will be presented in solo performance using an array of techniques and skills and together will showcase new innovative works and improvised music.
